Preparing a scanned signature

A signature photographed on a phone almost never passes an upload check on the first try. The paper reads as grey rather than white, a shadow falls across one corner, and the strokes come out too faint to survive being shrunk to a form's tiny pixel box. This tool handles those three problems together: it lifts the paper tint away, strengthens the ink so thin strokes hold up, and resizes the result to the exact width and height your form asks for.

What this fixes

Grey or yellow paper background
The background threshold lifts the paper tint and any shadow away, leaving pure white behind the ink.
Faint or broken strokes
Ink strength darkens the lines and closes the small gaps a dry pen leaves, so they survive being shrunk.
“Signature must be 140 x 60 px, under 20 KB”
Set the dimensions and the KB cap together — the output meets both at once.

Step by step

How to use it

  1. 1

Upload a phone photo of your signature

Sign on plain white paper and photograph it straight-on in good light — no scanner needed.

  2. 2

    Tune the background and ink

The background threshold turns grey paper pure white and ink strength darkens the strokes. The preview updates as you adjust.

  3. 3

    Download a clean, form-sized signature

The output lands at your exact dimensions and under the KB cap if you set one — free and unwatermarked.

Set width to 140 and height to 60 in the Dimensions group. That is the size several Indian exam portals ask for, including the saved form presets on this site. Sign on plain white paper and scan or photograph it first — starting from a larger, sharper capture gives a much cleaner result at 140 x 60 than enlarging a tiny crop.

Scanners and phone cameras pick up the paper tint and any shadow falling across the page, so the background is never pure white. Raise the background threshold until that tint drops out and only the ink remains. Push it too far and thin strokes start disappearing, so increase it gradually and stop as soon as the paper is clean.

Increase ink strength, which darkens the strokes and closes small gaps left by a dry pen or a low-contrast scan. If it still breaks up, the source capture is the problem — re-sign with a dark pen rather than a ballpoint, and photograph it in even daylight without a shadow across the paper.

Black and white gives the crispest result on white and the smallest file, which suits most upload forms. Grayscale keeps the soft edges of the strokes and looks more natural if a form is strict about the signature appearing hand-written. Original keeps the ink colour, which matters when a form specifically asks for a blue-ink signature.
